7 Reasons Why Buying USDA Certified Organic is Better

“Organic” is a buzz word that has been floating around the wellness industry for years now. FITTEAM is proud of the fact our products are “USDA Certified Organic” and for good reason. It’s more than a label and a buzzword; organic has to do with the way the food is grown and produced and affects our ecosystem more than most realize.

What is Organic?

Certified organic farmers may not use toxic, synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilizers, hormones, or antibiotics. Instead, they use practices that restore, maintain, and enhance soil and ecosystem health. There are heavy regulations for organic farmers, food processors, and manufacturers to ensure they are adhering to the utmost quality and standards, and the certification process is costly. As a result, organic foods tend to be more expensive.

What are the Advantages of Buying Organic?

Even though conventional food might cost less, the quality and nutritional value delivered is no comparison to that of a labeled “USDA Certified Organic” product. Here are some other benefits to buying organic:

  • Delivery of Meaningful Health Results

Nutritious food, grown using methods that minimize toxins to our internal and external environment.

  • Reduction of Exposure to Harmful Pesticides

Conventional farmers apply a TON of synthetic pesticides to their crops, and guess what, we get to ingest the residue from all of them!

  • Boosted Nutritional Quality

Organic crops are grown in healthy, biologically active soil which produces crops containing higher levels of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

  • No-GMO’s

FITTEAM also boasts a “Non-GMO” label on their products. Choosing to buy organic is the only way to ensure you’re avoiding genetically modified food risks.

  • Decrease Intake of Hormones and Antibiotics

Healthy animals produce healthier meat and by-products, so buying organic ensures the livestock weren’t given either growth hormone nor antibiotics unnecessarily.

  • Improved Water and Soil Quality of our Ecosystems

The more chemicals applied to crops, the more difficult it is to preserve water and soil quality. Organic farmers uphold the highest standards when it comes to their soil and water quality, and it’s exemplified in the food products.

  • Safer Work Environment for Farmers

By not being exposed to toxic pesticides, hormones, and working conditions, organic farmers are able to lead happier, healthier, and more productive lives, and it shows in their crops!

When Is It Ok to Buy Conventional?

Every year, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) identifies which produce has the most and least amount of exposure to pesticides and creates lists called the “Dirty Dozen” and “Clean 15”, respectively. This year (2017), strawberries and spinach top the list for the most exposure to pesticides, so it’s highly recommended to always purchase the organic variety of those. The goal of the lists is to help consumers make more informed choices, but while the Clean 15 are safer to buy conventional, it doesn’t necessarily mean the risk of exposure is eliminated.

Just as with anything, be sure to do your research and due diligence to make the most informed decision you can about what’s right for you and your health. Luckily, when it comes to FITTEAM products, you don’t have to worry! We put a lot of time and effort into ensuring the utmost quality. All products are USDA Certified Organic, all the way!
