Take the Bull by the Horns

“Take the bull by the horns.”

No, not literally. That’s crazy.

But maybe sometimes those crazy thoughts are what’re needed.

It’s hard to believe that pioneers and icons of many industries went about in a conventional way to achieve their vision. Names like Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Mark Cuban and so many more figures in history jump to mind. When it came to their vision, I highly doubt they sat back and let things come to them.

They went out and seized their opportunity. They went for what they wanted and let nothing stand in their way. We all want to live a fulfilling life and go to sleep smiling, knowing that we did everything we wanted to do that day.

Without our drive and determination to strive for better, we will dwell in complacency. There is nothing more demoralizing, to me at least, than knowing I could have—and should have—done more. It’s caused many sleepless nights and I’d like to think I’m not alone.

So what do we do? How do we change?

It all stems from comfort.

We have routines. We have schedules. We have our levels that we reach and are scared or hesitant to break through. Risk is a terrifying thought and I completely understood that notion on my 20-hour drive to a brand new state with nothing but an opportunity ahead of me, but I took that risk and haven’t looked back since.

Maybe we say hello to a stranger. Maybe we join a dance class when we have absolutely no rhythm. Maybe we go skydiving; whatever it may be, what if we just did it?

No second thoughts, no excuses; just action.

If we settle for what we’re accustomed to, to what we expect, we’ll never feel that adrenaline rush we all crave. We want to feel alive and that we’re doing something bigger than ourselves. Living within the confined bubble of our comfort zone will never allow us to make that change. It’s all about that first step.

Pick a day, preferably in the near future and do something you’ve never done before, no matter how big or small. Reflect on it. While living in the experience is certainly enough to sustain your thrill, preserving the memory either through written word or photo/video can be used for something much more important than a memory.

Motivation. Inspiration.

Whatever it is that you do, give it your all and remember, you get back what you put into it.

Again, not asking you to grab a bull’s horns, but if that’s the challenge you set for yourself, we at FITTEAM wish you the best (but do not condone it in any way, shape, or fashion).
